A Growth Mindset Can Change Everything
I love New Years. I love the fresh feel of a blank slate. I know it is made up. There is no reason life begins anew on January 1st but I’ll take it. I threw away a battered worn out 2018 full of wins and losses, high and lows. I don’t know- I guess if I use a broad brush it was a tougher year than most but it was also full of some amazingly beautiful days.
One of my mantras for 2018 was “Certainty is the enemy of growth”. I remember when I turned 50, I felt like there was nothing new on the horizon. I had my kids, my relationship, my practice and predicted that between 2013 and 2023 I would simply be getting the boys through high school and launched into adulthood. Make breakfast, go to work, do the laundry. Repeat. Here we are 5 years later and there has been a huge detour in my path. Talk about getting thrown into uncertainty- divorce wasn’t in the plan.
The year ahead is full of uncertainty. I plan on making a ton of mistakes. I plan on being surprised and disappointed and hurt and frustrated and worried. I plan on aiming high and falling on my face. I aim to get it oh so wrong, and making it right. I will get older but maybe just a bit wiser.
Some things I am excited about. Ryan is stepping into new territory and offering Life Hacks for Dads- a 4 week course on being the kind of dad you want to be. His practice is also growing- working with parents of all kinds in finding their way.
Haven’t had a chance to check in with Michele yet in 2019 but she took on so much growth in 2018, I can’t wait to see what is next. I get positive feedback every week from someone who has seen her for marriage work. I love the confidence I feel in handing off people to her.
I can feel my own “what’s next angst”. I love my workshops and of course I love the clients I get to see. I think I might be ready to put my butt in the chair and write another book. We’ll see.
I have a ton of workshops in January if I am part of your growth. Come do my goal setting workshop or my retreat or Stop Yelling. Use coupon code Geek19 for 20% off. But take on anything!!!
