Light as a feather…. you know how it goes
Wait…is it already December 15th? I have a huge to do list from last weekend I never got to because life got complicated…once again. My Google calendar reminds me every December that I love the holidays and would enjoy them more if I started preparing sooner. Every year I commit to better time management. Every year my lovely husband who has actually known me longer than Google has…says “Yeah, you say that every year. This is how you do Christmas.” So in this stress, that I know is not only mine I will remind you to lean into the people who love you and trust that it will all get done.
Do you remember playing “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” when you were a kid? It was a middle school “seance” where a bunch of people circled the kid in the middle who played dead while we levitated them with just our little fingers. (Ok- as in many things the Wikipedia explanation makes it way weirder than I thought)
I’ve had a week where I feel like the kid in the middle, being levitated. I had no idea how well supported I could feel. Sometimes you have to fall flat on your back before the magic can show up.
Reflections from above the magic circle-
During the best and the worst of times, make sure that the people who stand in your circle are the right people. No room for doubters and naysayers… the folks had better have your best interests at heart.
If you want your community to lift you up, you have to trust them. They cannot lift you if you resist. They cannot lift you until you give up the struggle.
It works because everyone lifts together, balanced, no one can lift one person alone. It works because 2 fingers x 2 hands x 8 kids actually can lift a person person.
It works because you believe it works. Chanting helps… words have power, encircle yourself with positive believers.
And it only works for a while. They can lift you up but they have to put you back down… and then it is someone else’s turn and you can’t hog all the magic, sometimes you have to be the person on the side too. Sometimes you have to lift a bunch of people before it is your turn.
As a mom, as a wife, as a big sister, as a daughter, as a friend and as a therapist I do a pretty good job of surrounding myself with the best…I just forget that they have the magic just as much as I do.
